Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living has been offering Dial-A-Ride Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Services in the Central Virginia area for over 45 years. The service is offered to eligible individuals who have no other options for transportation for their medical needs. Dial-A-Ride serves (The City of Lynchburg and Amherst, Appomattox, and Campbell Counties. Bedford Ride, also an off-shot of Dial-A-Ride and a program of CVACL, offers the service in the Town and County of Bedford. CVACL endeavors to support individuals in maintaining their independence in their own homes, if safe to do so. The Dial-A-Ride program offers door-through-door transportation service using accessible vehicles. When required, a companion may be approved to accompany riders for assistance. Drivers drop individuals off for appointments and, when notified, will return to pick individuals up and return them to their home.

Dial-A-Ride services are primarily for Non-Emergency Medical appointments; however, individuals may be transported to other destinations if schedules allow. Examples of other destinations include grocery stores, pharmacies and banks; places where individuals may need to be transported to support their health and well being

All individuals using the Dial-A-Ride program must be pre-approved through an assessment by a CVACL trained Care Manager. Individuals may be assessed a minor fee depending on their income. Dial-A-Ride is able to offer transportation through effective and timely scheduling. On demand transportation is not available; however, Dial-A-Ride provides thousands of trips a year ensuring individuals are able to access their needed health care.
