It’s been a year of taking it one day at a time. We haven’t dared to make any plans because we’ve watched the plans we did make – for trips, graduations, weddings, concerts, family gatherings and other events – be devastatingly dashed! But as more and more of us are being vaccinated and infection rates are moving in the right direction, we’re beginning to have the courage to make post-pandemic plans. After the year we’ve had, it’s not surprising that most of us have some big ones!

We’ve asked a handful of seniors about their post-pandemic plans when things feel normal again. Here’s what they said.

Claire, Pennsylvania

When the quarantine began in March 2020, a sewing retreat I planned to attend in October was cancelled. Disappointingly, it was cancelled again in February 2021. Now that all the participants are vaccinated, the retreat is on for June! Precautions will still be in place at the facility, and there will only be 13 of us this year. But we’re all excited to see each other as well as be inspired by the quilt and garment projects others are working on!

Live music is what I miss the most! Last year, my wife and I, along with another couple, had tickets to a Rodney Crowell concert. The concert was postponed, but it’s been rescheduled for the fall of this year. While we may be a little anxious sitting in an indoor venue with a bunch of other people, we’re all fully vaccinated and are planning to go.

Beverly, North Carolina

While we may eventually go back to movie theaters and indoor dining, we don’t think it’s risk-free yet since we’re sharing the same air with others for an extended period of time. However, we definitely want to travel around the U.S. in the RV this year!

I had a trip to Singapore scheduled for the fall of 2020. Because of the pandemic, that trip was cancelled. I’m hoping I can go on that adventure later this year or next!

And some of us have less grandiose, yet no less exciting, post-pandemic plans:

Linda, Maryland

I’m planning to have dinner with friends with whom I’ve been only Zooming for months!

Patricia, Virginia

I just want to hug all of my family, friends and neighbors. I’m guessing we all share her plan!
